I produced this little project in 2000–2001, when my sons Leonardo and Francesco were aged 4 and 3. The romantic newborn stage was over for both, and I could clearly see the exhausting and frenetic longing for independence of these energetic boys, often in open conflict with each other, inclined to the most reckless adventures and with an inexplicable passion for weapons of all kinds.

The camera allowed me to understand that their symbiotic relationship with me was being replaced, through play, by a strong reciprocal understanding.

I still pause to watch and photograph them, absorbed and closed “in their world”.
